Philosophy

Summers-Knoll provides a unique learning experience, in which each child can reach his or her own educational goals within an environment that is safe, supportive, and nurturing. It is the objective of the teachers, the administrators, and the school community to provide an experience for our children that creates a love of learning by encouraging each child to achieve to his or her own unique potential without pressure. Our curriculum is child-centered, with a variety of subjects woven into a rich tapestry of solid academics, artistic expression, and public service. At Summers-Knoll, you will find:
  • an emotional climate and physical environment designed to provide an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect;
  • a school community that nurtures the social, creative, intellectual, emotional, and physical development of each student;
  • a curriculum that features an academically-balanced program in a multiage setting;
  • an opportunity for students to integrate their abilities, creativity, and task orientation;
  • students that have the capacity to assimilate information from many sources, including teachers, parents, and each other; and
  • maximum class sizes of 12 students for each kindergarten classroom and 14 students for each grade 1–5 classroom.
